Understanding Satan, exposing him and how he works.

His origin: created by God perfect in all his ways. "Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee." Exek. 28:11-16

Our enemy was not created by God to be so, but was created a beautiful, powerful being. He was created with great intelligence and wisdom. God had appointed him to be in charge of all that God had made, to see that all was being done according to God's will. However, he sought his will over God's. His fall: was caused by his looking at himself instead of God, until he was filled with pride.  "By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness:" Ezek. 28:16-17

His pride: turned him from the will of God, to be as a God, and usurp God's throne.  "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High" Isa. 14:12-14

He is presently ruler of a kingdom. He heads the evil trinity himself, as the false god of this world, (counterfeit of God the Father) the antichrist (counterfeit of God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the false prophet (counterfeit of God the Holy Spirit).

As the false god of this world: "If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges." Luke 11:18-19

Consider: Mat. 12:24-26; Eph. 6:12 cf 2 Cor. 4:3-4

He is limited by the sovereignty of the God of heaven.  Job. 1:6-2:6

Satan's present ambition is:

1. Continuing to oppose God's work. "And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?"    Zec.3:1-2

Consider: 1 Thes. 2: 13-18

2. Continuing to oppose God's will and God's people.  He is our personal adversary and author of our spiritual warfare seeking to bring spiritual blindness and destroy our testimony and commitment. Consider: 2 Cor. 3:2-4, 4:3-4; 1 John 2:6

Satan opposes us through the unsaved world, and through false brethren. "In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;" 2 Cor. 11:26

Consider: Gal. 2:4

Satan
opposes us by bringing doubt to weaken us. " Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Col. 2:8

Consider: 2 Cor. 11:4; Gal. 1:8

Satan opposes us by getting our eyes off Christ, and on circumstances. "And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" Math. 14:25-31

Consider: 2 Tim. 4:10

Satan opposes God and us, by trying to get us to renounce God. "And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face." Job. 2:4-6

Consider: Mat. 26:31-72 vs. 2 Pet. 2:9-19

Satan opposes us being our accuser: "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." Rev. 12:10

Consider: Job 1:6-12

Thank God we have an advocate greater than him. 1 John 2:1

Satan opposes God and us, establishing his kingdom on earth, for the world to worship him.  "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." 2 Thes. 2:3-4

Consider: Mat. 4:8-10, vs. Rev. 13:1-9

The Principle by which Satan works is deception.  "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." Rev. 12:9

He appears as an angle of light. 2 Cor. 11:13-15
He is the father of lies. John 8:44,
He works lying wonders. Mat. 7:21-23; 2 Thes. 2:9, Rev. 16:14

By his antichrist, his counterfeit of the Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God: "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son." 1 John 2:22

Consider: Mat. 24:5; Mark 13:22-23; 1 John 2:18, 4:3; 2 John :7

Satan opposes us by his false prophet, his counterfeit of God the Holy Spirit. using  our sin nature: [his domain]

Satan tries to get us to tempt ourselves: "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."       James 1:12-15

Consider: 1 John 2:15-17; Pro.23:7; Mark 7:20-23; Psa.51:10

Satan tries to lead us: "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Rom. 8:5

Consider: Gal. 5:16-21; Col.2:4-10

Satan tries to control us: "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" Rom. 6:16

Consider: Rom. 6:12-19, 7:14-25

Satan's methods: "And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts." Mark 4:15

Consider: Mat. 13:19

Satan perverts the Word of God as he did in the beginning.  Think on Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV)  16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  and Genesis 3:1-7 (KJV)  1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. To see how he uses this process of deception Press Here    Satan continues to pervert the Word of God today . . . using 1/2 truth = a lie: Gen. 3:1 Vs. 2:16-17,  Truth misapplied: Mat. 4:6-7 Vs. Psa. 91:11-12

Consider: Rom. 6:12-19, 7:14-25

By his false prophet, his counterfeit of God the Holy Spirit. "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.  Math. 24:24-25 Consider: Rev. 16:13-14, 19:20

Through his false teachers: 2 Pet. 2:1 Through his false apostles: 2 Cor. 11:13-15; 1 Tim. 4:1-4

Consider: Rev. 16:13-14, 19:20

Satan uses demons to accomplish his work, but they too are subject to the sovereignty of God.  "For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty." Rev. 16:14

Consider: Mat.12:43-45; Mark 5:2-13; Luke 10:17-20 ; Eph. 6:11-13; 1 Tim.4:1

However, they are also subject to those sent by God. "And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." Luke 10:17-20

Consider: Luke 10:17-20; Rom. 16:20

Praise God, Satan is a defeated enemy. "He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8

Consider: 2 Thes. 2:8, Heb. 2:14; Rev. 12:7-12, 20:1-3, 7-10

The future of Satan, and all that follow him: "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." Heb. 2:14-15

Consider: 2 Thes. 2:8; Rev. 20:1-3, 7-15

The existence after Death and Reality of Hell was taught by Jesus, think about what Jesus had to say about it. Luke 16:19-31 "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." (19-23)

Jesus taught the perpetually of the human soul and the responsibility we have to its destiny. Two men lived and died, one went on to live in paradise, the other to exist in hell.

Life of the saved after death. Old Testament Saints went to Paradise (Abraham's bosom) after death, awaiting Christ to take them with Him. Jesus repudiates the false doctrine of soul sleep and purgatory.  "And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." Luke 23:39-43

Consider: Mat. 27:52-53

New Testament
Saints no longer have to wait in Paradise as they now go directly to Him. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Cor. 5:8 They look forward to joining their resurrected glorified bodies, that will not have a sin nature. "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." 1 John 3:8

Consider: Col. 3:4; 1 Thes. 4:13-17; 1 Cor. 15:34-58; Phil. 3:21:

Now we shall look at Life after death for those not saved. In Luke 16: 23-31  23 "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."  (24-25) Jesus taught that hell is a place unbelievers go to exist after their death to await the great white throne judgement of Christ."

Consider: Heb. 9:27

Jesus taught hell is a place of tormenting fire.   Consider: Mark 9:42-48  (26-28) Jesus taught that hell was a place of separation without hope of escape once you are in hell there is no way back to this life. Consider: Prov. 6:15

Jesus taught life after death was with full consciousness and use of our five senses. There is no soul sleep. Note the horror over his family members condition, as well as his own.

Jesus taught there is no communication from the dead in hell to the living.  His concern for others, like Himself was too late.  (29-31) Jesus taught saving faith is not attainable through the returning of the dead.  Consider: Mat. 27:52-53 There is no record of any one being saved as a result of the dead returning to the city.

Jesus taught hell can only be avoided by faith in Him through God's Word, received during our life on earth. Consider: John 5:37-40; Rom.10:9-17  Hell is filling up, but one day it will be empty when its inhabitants are put into the lake of eternal fire. All unsaved will end up in its everlasting torments!
