the reality of your faith.
Thank the Lord we only need to be saved once. However as we are all sinners, we can only be saved by the grace of God. For we all have a sin nature, prone to sin. The consequences of sin in the life of those that are saved is not the loss of their salvation, (except the sin of death to be spoken of lster) but the loss of their righteousness and fellowship with the Lord and those in His family. Consider: 1 John 1:1-10 "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Confession [agreement with what the Lord already knows] cleanses those that are His from all sin. Confession restores their righteousness position in Him, and fellowship one with another.
However consider how Jesus determines if one is His or not. Consider: John 10:26-27 "But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" consider: Romans 8:29 " For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren."
How does God bring those that are His to the image of His Son Jesus Christ? Consider: Peter 1:3-4 "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."
It is the appointed work of the Holy Spirit to conform all those that belong to Christ into His image and likeness through the Word of God.
How does He do that? 2 Tim. 2:15-17 "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." As the Apostle Paul said "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." [2 Cor. 5:17] The evidence of being saved is the presence of the Holy Spirit bringing the saved from what they were into the likeness of Christ. That is the ongoing work of the sanctification of all in the family of God. It is a changing life, Amen.
This is a step by step work of the Holy Spirit teaching us to walk in His steps. For God uses imperfect people to do His perfect work. Consider: 1 John 2:6 " He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked."
