Prayer is the source of power
The Lord's Prayer is an outline, revealing His will and heart for us.
When Godís people pray in faith believing,
Understanding the Lord's Prayer (Mat. 6:9-13)
When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray He gave them the outline we call the THE LORD'S PRAYER
Consider: Matthew 6:9-13 "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." The power of prayer gives us an awareness of our intimacy with our God and victory for those who receive Christ.
"OUR FATHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN," Not all can say that, according to God's Word, some have the devil for their father! "Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God." John 8:42-47
This is a privilege for those who have received Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. "He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:11-13 Consider: Rom. 8:14-16
Remember it is an outline for following God's will for our communication with Him.

JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD is our Saviour, creator and preserver. "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;" Col. 1:12:-19
"Jesus saith unto him, I
am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
"THY KINGDOM COME." We should be looking for his return! (future tense) "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also " John 14:1-3 Consider: Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thes. 4:13-18
"THY WILL BE DONE IN EARTH [in us] AS IT IS IN HEAVEN." (present tense) "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." John 15:10-11 Consider: John 6:38, 14:10, 17:4; Phil. 2:5; Mat. 5:3-15
"GIVE US [me] THIS DAY OUR [my] DAILY BREAD." (Papa, my bread for today I come for it, to claim it.) The first food we are to seek, is spiritual food the Word of God, which brings us to Christ, and the righteous life of His kingdom. "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:" 1 Pet. 2:2 Consider: Job 23:12; Jer. 15:16; 2 Tim. 3:16-17
The Word of God expresses the will of God which when accomplished in and through our lives becomes our source of strength. "Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Math. 4:1-4 Consider: John 4:31-34
We are to trust in the integrity of God and His Word to meet all our needs, physical and spiritual. "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Math. 6:25-34 Consider: Heb.13:5-6; Rom.8:28-29
"FORGIVE US [me] OUR [my] DEBTS AS WE [I] FORGIVE OUR [my] DEBTORS." "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Math. 6:14-15 Consider: Mat 5:23-26, 18:21-35
If you can count their trespasses, you have never forgiven in the first place! Better try again! Out of 490 tries you should make it.
Consider the prodigal son's brother: Luke 15:25-32 "Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found."
The heart of God is found in the heart of the father not the brother. How much more should we who have received God's grace be like the father and not like the brother of the prodigal. Consider: Gal. 6:1-3. Rom. 15:1-3
"AND LEAD US [me] NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US [me] FROM EVIL:" Lord I am not able to be tempted as your Son Jesus so save me from my evil self. "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." James1:12-17 Consider: 1 John.2:15-17; Rom. 7:14-25, 6: 10-18; 1 John 1:7-9 Remember: 1 Cor. 10:13; 1 Thes. 5:23-24
"FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER FOREVER AMEN." The Lord desires us to acknowledge His sovereignty." Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;" Col. 1:13-19
We should submit to Him as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, not only because of who He is, our Almighty creator, and sustainer, but for what He is holy and righteous, a God of love mercy and grace! To God be the glory! Amen and Amen. Consider: 2 Cor. 5:14-15, Gal. 2:20
The Lord's Prayer is His prayer for us, to know Him, and to love Him for who and what He is. For us to pray to be like him as we were meant to be. For we were made to be in the image and likeness of God. (Gen.1:26) Its fulfillment in our lives enables us to keep the two commandments given to us by the Lord Jesus Christ which encompass the ten given to Israel.
(1) Mat.22:37-38 "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment." Covers the first five commandments.
(2) Mat.22:39 "And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Covers the last five commandments. Mat.22:40 "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
The Lord's Prayer is an
outline, revealing His will and heart for us.
The Lord's Prayer
is a prayer for our victorious, successful life in Jesus Christ, bringing honor
and glory to God. Praying the Lord's prayer brings us in agreement with His
will and prayer for us and if implemented assures us of its' fulfillment as He
will only do for us what we are willing to do.
The Lord's Prayer is His prayer for our walk with Him. Consider: 2 Cor. 5:14-15; Gal. 2:20
Implementing the Lord's Prayer brings us into the place of His blessing.: Consider: Rom. 8:28-30
The importance of prayer cannot be overstated.
(1) Consider the value God puts upon it. "And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints." Rev.5:8
How often do we pray talking to Him about our love for Him, and how great He is to us, or asking Him how He feels about what we are planning to do? Then look into His Word to get His answer. Most of the time it is a one way conversation begging to get out of trouble, or get our way but we fail to look to His Word to get His answer. We pray so little to Him, that when we do, they are so precious to Him, He saves our prayers in golden vials. Thank God the Holy Spirit ministers to our prayers. "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." Rom. 8:26-27 Consider: James 4:3 Cf Isa. 65:24
(2) For God's working in and through us. "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness." Acts 4:31 Consider: Math. 18:18-20; Eph 6:18-20
(3) Intercessory Prayer "Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews." Acts 12:5-11 Consider Acts 12:12; 1 Cor. 12:26; Heb. 13:3; James 5:13-16
When God's people pray in faith believing, He always answers their prayers. "And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." Mark 11:22-24 Consider: Isa. 65:24; Math. 6:8; Cf. John 15:7;
Sometimes God's answer is
delayed by Satan, as we live in Satan's domain.
"And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the
sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God
for the holy mountain of my God; Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the
man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly
swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me,
and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill
and understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came
forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore
understand the matter, and consider the vision.. . . . . . . . Then said he unto
me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to
understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I
am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one
and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me;
and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Now I am come to make thee
understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision
is for many days." Dan. 9:20-23 . . .Dan. 10:12-14
Satan may delay God's answer, but he cannot prevent it. Godís provision and timing is always right. Sometimes we think God does not answer our prayers, because we do not recognize Godís answer at the time it is given. For some times we ask for the wrong things, but He gives us what is in His will and best for us, as he knows the end result of what we receive.
We need only to trust God, pray and let the results be up to God. Remember Jesus gave the key to answered prayer: "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7
